Good book! I really enjoyed the England quiz book and it is great to keep it handy for a football quiz night, which we all enjoy.

Sporting Chance Charity would very much like to thank Adam Pearson and the publishers Apex for their generosity in providing some of the profits from this Quiz book to come our way.
When Tony Adams first talked to me about starting the charity he was at the height of his career and he funded the whole thing with his own cheque book. When he asked me to become Chief Executive I realised that funds from other sources were needed.
The vast majority of the people we support are not highly paid affluent athletes but sportspeople whom through addiction have lost everything. We are proud of the fact that we have never turned anyone away for financial reasons.
Every contribution helps and Tony and myself are delighted that Adam and Apex Publishing Ltd have shown this generosity. We thank you.

What I especially like about this book is the level at which the questions are set. I find that too many quiz books expect the reader to have the knowledge of a Mastermind contestant, which can immediately turn you off and make you reach for another book. This book (certainly to my limited knowledge) allowed me to get roughly 50% of the questions right without having to think too hard, plus another 20% with a determined effort. This left about 30% that were a real challenge, which to my mind is a great
balance, making the book enjoyable, challenging but not too daunting.

I read this on a six-hour flight which - excuse the pun - flew by! I got around 50 per cent - not bad for a taffy! Well collated and a great stocking filler or birthday present for all football fans - not just the English. Did England really not concede a goal in the six qualifiers for the 1990 World Cup? - Mssrs Terry and Ferdinand take note!

I must say I was delighted to be asked to provide the foreword for this England quiz book and it is a real pleasure to accept.
I was born in 1966, a year every fan will remember as England winning the World Cup trophy at Wembley against West Germany, 4-2. I always wanted to play for my country as I thought it would be great to represent England at the highest level.
I first made my England debut in February 1987 against Spain in a 4-2 win – what a fantastic experience it is to play for your country and I was only 20-years-old. Well, 66 caps in total and my final appearance for England was in 2000, against Germany, a 1-0 defeat (the last ever match to be played at Wembley Stadium). I was also fortunate to captain my country during Euro ‘96, which is one of the best experiences of my football career. What a lot of people don’t know is I was the last England player to score at Wembley Stadium, in a 2-0 victory against Ukraine.
I have been so lucky to play in the same team as some world-class players for Arsenal and England as well as some great managers; Bobby Robson, Gary Lineker, David Platt, Alan Shearer, Paul Gascoinge to name a few – I have also played against the best players in the world during World Cup and European Championship matches.
When I read through this book I was amazed at all the facts and figures on the England football team, it brought back some great memories from some fantastic matches and players who have worn the three lions on their shirt. This book will test your knowledge to see how big a fan you are and see how much you remember from the past years; the 1,000 questions cover everything from players to World Cup tournaments.
I am delighted that by writing this foreword the publishers, Apex Publishing Ltd and the compiler Adam Pearson, have agreed to donate £1 from each book sale to ‘The Sporting Chance Clinic’. As a result of my experiences with alcohol and drug addiction, I founded the Sporting Chance Clinic, which is a charitable foundation aimed at providing treatment, counselling and support for sports men and women suffering from drink, drug or gambling addictions. For more information on the clinic please see the back of this book.
I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did!

As a result of the book reviews, Living Tenerife has recently been contacted by Apex Publishing, with the request to write some reviews on new books and authors. Therefore The England Quiz Book compiled by Adam Pearson with a foreword by Tony Adams is a suggested family read for the summer vacation. This little book has several sections and begins by asking questions relating to the history of English football dating back to 1872 up to the present day. This is followed by a section on the 1966 World Cup Final, A Trivia section, intriguing questions concerning statistics, which clubs did people play for and where did they end their careers and even more trivia. All of the answers are supplied but for any football fan this is good fun but the book could also be useful for a pub quiz compiler. Additionally one pound from every copy of the book sold will go to ´The Sporting Chance Clinic´ Charity.

The England Quiz Book
The England team may not have qualified for Euro 2008 and in this quiz book you will find all the answers to all the questions except that is -”Why did the FA every appoint Steve McLaren”.
But all the other questions and answers are there making this a must for Three Lions fans.
One thousand questions covering cups, tours, championships as well as debut goal scorers, hat tricks and lots more with of course a very special page on the 1966 World Cup Final.
Adam Pearson has done all the hard work for quiz masters and England fans and has kindly donated £1 from every book sold to “The Sporting Chance Clinic” Charity. The charity was founded to provide treatment for sportsmen and women of all abilities who are suffering from the effects of drink, drugs or gambling addictions.
The foreword is quite appropriately written by Tony Adams MBE, the former England man with 60 odd caps who fought his own particular demons to come back and win a remarkable double with the Arsenal.

Having been a life-long Toon Army (Newcastle United) fan, I was more than delighted to see that my team’s hero Alan Shearer gains more than one mention in this fascinating book. Truth to tell, it doesn’t matter which team you support, you’ll find a wealth of information in this volume about the life and times of the England football team.
Who did Gary Lineker miss a penalty against whilst playing for his country? Which Brighton & Hove Albion player won three England caps in 1983? Which England player scored a hat-trick against Germany in 2001? Haven’t a clue? Then get your hands on this impressive catalogue of facts, which has a foreword by the incomparable Tony Adams, and impress your mates. And your wife, and your boss, and that taxi driver...

Nothing like getting the family and friends together, and this book certainly did that! With England playing matches on the TV at the moment it made the atmosphere perfect. You don’t realise how much knowledge or how much you remember until faced with these questions. A fab book, recommended for young and old alike!
