-- Reviews by the Famous and well Known
If there is anything you need to know about cricket then this is the book for you. So test yourself and your knowledge - a must have book for all cricket fans.
Jason Marriner, Author of 'It's Only A Game'
~
For anyone interested in cricket and a desire to test their knowledge of the game, Alan Finch, Chris Cowlin, and Adam Pearson have put their heads together to come up with a truly wonderful quiz - The Cricket Quiz Book. The book contains 1,000 questions dealing with all aspects of the subject, and no other book to my knowledge presents such an in-depth group of questions on the topic. In attempting to answer the questions, not only was it enjoyable, but it proved to be highly educational - I became aware of all kinds of facts I never knew about a game I thought I was familiar with. The book gets five stars from me - don't fail to buy a copy!

This book is a thoroughly enjoyable 'quizzical' masterpiece no cricket fan can afford to be without... What's more, it is akin to watching an explosive Twenty20 match from the front-seat -- and, a fun way to test your knowledge of the game... along the way!
Rajgopal Nidamboor, Author of 'Cricket Boulevard'

I was brought up to believe that having respect for other is the greatest virtue of all.
I have tried to live my life with this in mind and it has served me well. People I have met from all walks of life-sporting greats to kids on the park alike-have gone out of their way to return the compliment and this has made me the person I am today. It has also resulted in a number of close friendships that I still hold very dear.
My career in cricket has spanned many years both as a player and then an umpire where I was fortunate enough to achieve every honour the game had to offer; of this I am immensely proud.
From the playing fields of Barnsley to international cricket shrines across the world, my love of sport in general and cricket in particular has never faded.
Reflecting on my career in cricket, people often ask, "What is your proudest moment?” to which I always reply; “I am proud never to have forgotten my roots”.
My parents struggled to give me the best they could afford and for that I will always be grateful.
When I retired from umpiring, I decided that I wanted to use my position in the public eye to give something back and to help those young people who were in the financially disadvantaged position I found myself.
In my view, every child- regardless of their circumstances- should have the opportunity to take part in the sport of their choice, to get themselves fit and get away from the street corners and television.
The Dickie Bird Foundation was therefore launched in 2004 and has since become the biggest part of my life. With a small number of Trustees, we are now going from strength to strength.
The Foundation offer grants to help financially disadvantaged children take part in their chosen sport. To this point these have ranged from horse riding, ice skating, karate and athletics to football, rugby and cricket-thee have been many more.
Turning to this book, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the publishers for their significant support for my Foundation.
As you might imagine, I am often asked questions about the laws of cricket, the players, the clubs and everything else to do with the game.
This quiz book will hopefully leave you with the feeling that you have learned something new, recalled things you had forgotten-and then quickly forgotten them again.
You may be of expert standard and able to answer all the questions. You may be a bar room bore who knows nothing about everything. You could even be the next Dickie Bird: someone who has a lifetime of cricketing knowledge-but still sometimes manages to forget the most famous players’ names.
I hope you enjoy the book and remember, by purchasing this, you too are doing your bit to help financially disadvantaged children
Best Wishes

CRICKET QUIZ BOOK STUMPS MANY FANS
A TEAM of authors hope they can stump readers with The Cricket Quiz Book.
Chris Cowlin, Alan Finch and Adam Pearson have compiled more than 1,000 questions to test readers.
Mr Cowlin, production manager at Apex Publishing, based in Clacton, has written dozens of fundraising sports quiz books, mainly about football.
The Dickie Bird Foundation will get £1 from every copy of the £8.99 book sold.
The charity, set up by the former cricket umpire, who wrote the foreward for the book, helps disadvantaged under 18-year-olds take part in sport.
Mr Cowlin, said: "I've published a lot of sports books before, but mainly about football.
"The contact with the Dickie Bird Foundation is through my Celebrities' Favourite Football Team book."
Mr Cowlin usually writes on his own but this time he enlisted the help of pal Alan Finch, a cricket enthusiast and former Clacton County High School pupil, and quiz book specialist Adam Pearson, from the Isle of Wight.
The team researched the questions from biographies and other books, programmes and the internet.
It took about three months to write.
"I'm more of a football fan so it was good to have Alan and Adam on board," he said.
Mr Cowlin and Mr Finch will be signing copies of the book at Waterstone's in Culver Square, Colchester, on June 28 from 11am to noon.

I thought I knew everything about cricket; but this quiz book proved otherwise! You can stand alongside Wisden for facts, what a superb quiz book.
There are many hours of pleasure still to come from the book, plus a lot of frustration trying to think of the answers!

I thought this book was superb! It was so easy to follow, i.e. Looking up the answers at the back of the book, etc. My two sons are into cricket, one of them coaches youngsters in Bristol. Both grandsons play for their schools, so the book couldn’t have found a better home. I’m the quiz-master so I too, am learning a lot about the game. I have fond memories of watching England playing “The rest of the world” in the 60s.
