THE RUGBY QUIZ BOOK
Rugby, like football, is a game of two halves ... but there is nothing half-hearted about this 'full-bloodied' tribute to the real man's game!
The brilliant Rugby Quiz Book was compiled by author and sports lover Adam Pearson whose early memory of 'naked burly men striding around the dressing room' scarred him for life!
And as an Englishman (with a secret love of football) living through his teenage years in Wales, he learned the hard way how to live with pain.
His years in Penarth fostered a new love for the game of Rugby Union and he met and admired Welsh stars of the game like J.P.R.Williams and Steve Fenwick.
Inspired by the game and his memories of mud, blood and 'the ever- present essence of Deep Heat,' Pearson has lovingly assembled a treasure trove of rugby facts and figures and turned them into this delightful test of sporting knowledge.
There are two centuries of rugby trivia here and a good selection of rounds covering every facet of the game.
Pearson kicks off with a few questions on the origins of the game like the year of the first international rugby match and how many players were in the team before it was reduced to 15 men in 1877.
Rugby School, where the game was first played, gets it own round as do the relatively new World Cup tournaments, the Barbarians (the team with no home) and the world famous Twickenham ground.
The big names get their own rounds too so there's time to swot up on the likes of England's golden boy Jonny Wilkinson, the Kiwi battering ram Jonah Lomu and the abrasive Aussie David Campese before you test your knowledge.
And before you shout 'But what about Rugby League?' rest assured that the other 'code' has not been cold shouldered by those Union boys.
League fans will be delighted with the inclusion of a good cross- section of posers on northern clubs like Leeds Rhinos, Widnes Vikings and Wigan Warriors as well as hall of fame players Jason Robinson, Joe Lydon and Ellery Hanley.
With 1,200 fun and serious questions, this is just the book to take down to your local rugby club, scrum down with the lads and set the ball rolling for a night of brain testing, beer and belly laughs...
Thoroughly entertaining from the first whistle to the last orders!

Bob Harrison, Manx Radio 89-103 FM (Presenter and Producer)
All card carrying rugby fans know it was William Webb Ellis who started the ball rolling ... by having the sense to run with it. But who made the ball, what colour socks was he wearing when he made it and what did he have for his tea that day? It's that kind of trivial, gloriously petty attention to geeky detail that makes this book an agonising joy for fans of both codes.
Shaun Peel, BBC Look East (Sports Editor)
A challenging book for any avid rugby fan.
Tony Beards, Radio North Tees (Programme Manager/Controller)
-- Readers Comments
This book is a real must for avid rugby supporters. I have tried some of the questions out on my husband, daughter and my grandson who are all rugby fans. I have added this to my collection of rugby books, mostly biographies of past and present players.
