I knew Bolton Wanderers was a club with a famous background when I joined them and Marc’s book shows just what it means to be a player for such a famous English side.

The Official Bolton Wanderers Quiz Book is crammed full of so much interesting and unusual questions about the club. An unbelievable amount of detail has gone into the compilation of this superb book.
Nat Lofthouse OBE, Bolton Wanderers Football Club (1946-1960) & Club President

I was delighted when Marc contacted me asking if I would write the Foreword to this, his Official Bolton Wanderers Football Club Quiz Book.
I am extremely proud to be the Chairman of Bolton Wanderers, a founder member club of the Football League. Our club is steeped in a wonderful tradition that dates back from its formation until the present day. Without doubt, the hey days of the club were the 1920s when Charles Foweraker’s magnificent side won the FA Cup three times during the decade. However, many fans will also recall our superb team from the 1950s spearheaded by a local lad named Nat Lofthouse who helped the Trotters win the 1958 FA Cup final.
Nat is a Bolton legend, one of those traditional, but oh-so-very-rare-today, one club career players, who delighted fans across the city with his goal scoring exploits for Bolton Wanderers and up and down the country when he proudly wore the Three Lions shirt for England. Fittingly, Nat is still associated with the club today some 68 years since he first walked through the doors of Burnden Park and serves as our Club President. Of course we have moved grounds since Nat last played for us but I know all Bolton Wanderers fans have their own special memories of Burnden Park which served the club so well for more than a century. Equally, I think our Reebok Stadium is one of the best in the country.
Bolton Wanderers FC has had many fantastic players down the years and it is fitting that so many of them have been included here. Indeed, Marc’s book is in many ways a quizzical trip through the history of the club as he has added sections on famous managers, the players, FA Cup triumphs, Wembley Finals, League campaigns and Premiership seasons plus much more.
The Official Bolton Wanderers Football Club Quiz Book is quite simply one of those little gems of a book that makes you proud to be a Trotter. The questions are imaginative, yet testing and will please and tease you in equal measure. It is one of those books you can take down to the pub to test your mates’ knowledge of the club, or just simply sit at home and see how much your Dad or Grandad knows about the history of the Trotters. But above all else, it is a book which will further your own knowledge of Bolton Wanderers Football Club.
In closing, I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did and let’s hope our team can lead Marc to having to write a few new Chapters for the reprint.

When I was first asked if I was interested in reading this book, I thought what I would want with a book on Bolton Wanderers, I know everything anyway! But I admit, wow – what a great fascinating book it is.
There are exactly a thousand questions and answers in there ranging from the history of the club, fascinating questions on different players and events over the history of Bolton Wanderers.
Marc White the author of the book has put in a lot of hours and he definitely knows his subject and the result is a must for any Bolton Wanderers football fan.
He has left no stone unturned and will definitely settle many an argument in the pub with your mates who think they know everything about the club. And I for one when asked to do anymore quizzes on the Trotters will not have the book to far from my side.

MARC IS A WANDERERS FANATIC
AT just 18 years old, Marc White is barely old enough to remember Burnden Park but having just compiled the club’s first official quiz book he could certainly tell even the most seasoned fan a thing or two about the club.
Despite his tender years, the young Irishman, currently at Ulster University studying ICT, has just completed his third book – a 1,000-question trivia-laden compendium which should test the most ardent Wanderers supporter.
The idea snowballed after his father made contact with chairman Phil Gartside, who also agreed to supply a foreword, but the author already had some idea of the subject matter.
“Ever since I was really young I can remember my grandad telling me stories about Nat Lofthouse and the Lion of Vienna,” he said.
“It’s a club with a great history and I was really excited to get involved with it.
“On top of that, most clubs have got a quiz book but I noticed that Bolton hadn’t. We got Phil Gartside’s backing for it and went from there.”
The book covers many of the famous faces to have played for the club down the years with special sections of questions on modern greats such as Jay-Jay Okocha, Youri Djorkaeff and Fredi Bobic.
And White admits he was surprised by just how many great players had worn the Wanderers shirt.
“Once I got into it, you get a sense of how big the club really is,” he said.
“The first FA Cup final at Wembley, founder members of the Football League, it wasn’t hard to find something to write about.
“And some of the players – it was terrific to find out more about them.”
Coming up with 1,000 questions, even on a club with as much history as Wanderers, is no mean feat. But trivia-obsessed White said it was labour of love.
“I’m a football fanatic, so writing questions is just something which I love to do,” he said.
“I spent so much time on the computer researching all the facts and figures but it was all worth it, I loved finding out more about Bolton. One website in particular, run by Nigel Sheppard, was a massive help. I’d like to thank him because he gave me a lot of good ideas for questions.”
The teenager does not know whether he is cut out for a career in writing but certainly hopes the royalties can keep rolling in while he completes his studies.
“I’ll see how this book goes and whether or not I get any more offers,” he said.
“If not, I have enjoyed it and I’ll pick another career path.
“I have got a couple of projects coming up but it’s down to the publishers now. Whatever happens, it’s nice to put on the mantelpiece – something to show the grandkids.” Copies are available to buy at all good bookstores in Bolton priced at £9.99, directly from Apex Publishing Ltd on 01255 428500 or http://www.apexpublishing. co.uk. Signed books can also be purchased from the club superstore.
