First of all, can I say that it is a privilege to be asked to provide the foreword for this official Peterborough United quiz book. I joined the football club in August 1996 as owner/manager. Some 12 years later I can reflect on many ups and downs. I would like to thank the many people whom have helped me enormously in keeping the club in existence. It has been a long hard battle but all the pain has been worth it with the arrival of our new messiah Darragh MacAnthony.
Since the chairman first walked in to London Road he has become a breath of fresh air with his enthusiasm, love, passion and knowledge for the wonderful game which we call football not to mention his financial expertise. He has completely transformed the club and has become like the pied piper with many wanting to follow him along to the Promised Land. He has not only changed the outlook of the club but also the whole City has sat up and took notice of his ambitions, and wants to be a part of the progress.
Darragh also had the guts to put his money where his mouth was in securing the transfers of Aaron Mclean, Craig Mackail - Smith, George Boyd, Shane Blackett, Craig Morgan, and Micah Hyde before appointing another young ambitious man to be his manager – Darren Ferguson. Darren has since had the total backing of the chairman in securing more young hungry players like Joe Lewis, Russell Martin, Chris Westwood, Charlie Lee, Scott Rendell, Dean Keates, Paul Coutts Chris Whelpdale, Tommy Williams, Sergio Torres, Shaun Batt, and Dominic Green. So as you can see our chairman’s commitment to bring success to The Posh has been second to none.
In their first year together both Darragh and Darren had a goal which was to gain promotion which they did by playing the best football seen at London Road in the last 50 years. Playing fast, exciting, entertaining, skilful football and scoring more than 100 goals in all competitions.
Since the arrival of Darragh MacAnthony (not to mention his financial expertise) The Posh are a force to be reckoned with. With the ambition of the chairman to gain another promotion to the championship and move into a new all seater stadium followed by promotion to the Premiership it is a great time to be a Peterborough Untied supporter.
I hope you enjoy the book and I would like to thank you for your support it is very much appreciated by everybody at Peterborough United Football Club.

'GREAT ADMIRER OF BARRY FRY' RELEASES NEW BOOK OF POSH FACTS
THINK you know everything about Posh...? Well now you can find out with the launch of a new quiz book based on the London Road outfit.
Author Chris Cowlin was on hand on Saturday signing new copies of his Peterborough United quiz book at the club's stadium before the side's crunch tie with Oldham.
Mr Cowlin, who compiled the book with Kevin Snelgrove, appeared in the Club Shop at London Road where The Official Peterborough United Quiz Book was made available to buy for the first time.
Mr Cowlin even got the thumbs-up from Posh director of football Barry Fry, who provided the foreword to the book, and chairman Darragh MacAnthony, who posed for a pre-match picture with the author.
He said: "I have compiled a lot of books for a lot of other clubs, but Peterborough United is one I have a soft spot for and I've been a great admirer of Barry Fry.
"I enoyed writing it. It takes a lot of hard work, because a lot of facts need to be checked."

THE ULTIMATE POSH QUIZ
SHARPEN your pencils, dip into your memory banks and come up with the right answers because the ultimate test for any Posh fan has arrived.
Don't worry, it is not sitting through a video of a match from Dave Booth's reign as manager or listening to lame ex-boss Mark Lawrenson deliver expert views on the game.
But it is the The Official Peterborough United Quiz Book and it comes complete with a big boast that it will satisfy even the most ardent of supporters.
The book has been compiled by Chris Cowlin and Kevin Snelgrove and Posh director of football Barry Fry has provided the foreword.
Cowlin, who has also put together books on TV, cricket and Carry On films, said: "It has been great fun researching the history of The Posh.
"This book will bring back some great memories for fans of all ages. We have given the reader a good mixture of hard, medium and easy questions so everyone can enjoy the book and learn a lot about their club.
"Both Kevin and I are absolutely delighted by the feedback and the comments of past players who have enjoyed testing their knowledge on the club."
It promises to inform, entertain and surprise while providing hours of enjoyment (that rules out Peter Shearer then) and contains 800 questions on a range of topics from individual players to specific seasons and competitions.
The book is on sale in Posh's club shop and other bookstores in the city, but the Diary could not resist coming up with a few questions of its own that probably wouldn't make the final cut:
1: Playing at Posh was a dog's life for which 1970s defender?
2: Which former London Road youngster has swapped Posh for porn?
3: Which Posh defender of recent times shared a nickname with a Disney character?
4: Which Posh personality of recent times did the regular author of this column annoy by dubbing him 'a ginger skinhead'?
5: Bonkers former Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan (right) managed to upset which Posh manager – and why?
6: Barry Fry once predicted that a certain player would be the next to graduate from Posh to the Premiership. He actually moved to the Conference, but who was he?
7: And while we're on the subject of Fry, which player did he famously compare to Franz Beckenbauer upon his arrival at London Road?
8: When he wasn't busy winding up referees or getting himself into other bother, midfield tiger Tony Shields was a champion at which other sport?
9: Jimmy Bullard wasn't just a bundle of energy with a blockbuster of a long shot, he was also a champion golfer in his time here, but what event did he win to receive coverage in this newspaper?
10: Which two Posh players of the past decade have only lasted 45 minutes?
Quiz answers:
1 - Peter Hindley (raced greyhounds which he exercised around the London Road pitch and once infamously washed in the team's communal bath!);
2 - Michael Haxthausen (a youth team keeper who went on to be an adult movie star); 3 - Simon Rea (Shrek);
4 - Mark Wright;
5 - Lil Fuccillo after loaning him an unfit player (David Roche);
6 - Gary McDonald;
7 - Mick Bodley;
8 - Table tennis;
9 - Thorpe Wood Golf Club championship;
10 - Njazi Kuqi and Brian McGovern.
