FORMER Derbyshire and England all-rounder Phil DeFreitas has released his autobiography, looking back on long and successful career.
Daffy: The Autobiography has been written by 46-year-old ex-cricketer along with experienced journalist Derek Clements, and has a foreword by Sir Trevor McDonald.
In the book, the man who was described as ‘the next Botham’ reveals the ups and downs of his career. He has played with, and against, some of the biggest names in the game and he has stories to tel.
DeFreitas played for Derbyshire from 1994-1999 and represented England in 44 Tests and 103 One-Day International between 1986-1997. He not only lifts the lid on the cricket world but also tells about his experiences with idol, Ian Botham, and what they got up to with well known hell-raiser and close friend, Phil Tufnell.
Phil also talks about meeting the Queen and Mother Teresa, and his unlikely friendship with pop legend Elton John.
This autobiography, from Apex Publishing provides a behind the scenes peek at the world of international cricket.
It is out now in all good bookshops.

Scheduled for release in October next year is the autobiography of Philip "Daffy" De Freitas. Daffy was a great servant of England, Leicestershire, Lancashire and Derbyshire and if his Test record is, in the final analysis, slightly disappointing, that is primarily a reflection of the, with hindsight, unrealistic expectations that accompanied him on his first England tour, the successful defence of the Ashes in 1986/87. His career had many highs, a few lows, and there were a number of controversies along the way. Co-author Derek Clements helped make Henry Olonga's autobiography one of the best cricket books of 2010, and I am confident he will use the raw material that Daffy will give him to provide us with another masterpiece.
