About the Author: Matthew Battersby was born and grew up in Birmingham. When he was 18, Matthew moved to Hoylake in Merseyside with his family where he attended Notre Dame College in Liverpool.
For a time, Matthew worked as a Surveyor for Liverpool Council where he worked on a successful project to find a cure for Dutch Elm Disease. Unfortunately, the research was not viable due to cost but it sparked Matthew’s keen interest in gardening and the natural world.
Matthew now runs his own landscaping firm, which he set-up in 1985. When he is not gardening, Matthew can be found pursuing his other major passion, chess.
Matthew is married with three boys and still lives in Merseyside.
