It is with great pleasure that I write the Foreword to John’s “The Red Devils Quiz Book”. I can’t honestly admit to knowing all of the answers to the questions but like me I’m sure you will find it enjoyable attempting them. I find myself tackling the questions in between training. I take great delight asking the players the questions I couldn’t get right. I love seeing their faces grimace when I tell them the answer. But, nobody likes a know-all do they?
When you open this book you will find it difficult to put it down. And what’s more John and Apex Publishing Limited have kindly agreed to donate £1 from every copy sold to the ‘George Best’s Liver Research Appeal’.
So in closing I hope you find this book as enjoyable as I did and on behalf of myself and all the players, thank you for your loyal support.

Although it is now over 40 years since I first played for United, this book has brought back so many special memories from my time at Old Trafford – 2 League Championship successes, my European Player of the Year Award and of course, the European Cup triumph in 1968. I will be forever grateful to Sir Matt Busby who gave me my chance at United and who showed so much faith in me. So, I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did and like me, I hope it helps you remember some truly magical moments in the history of Manchester United.

APEX FOOTBALL QUIZ BOOKS
There are four new additions to the series of Apex Football Quiz books (all softback). They are: The Gooners Quiz Book (price £8.99), The Colchester United Quiz Book (price £8.99), The Red Devils Quiz Book (price £9.99) and The Official Norwich City FC Quiz Book (price £8.99). Each contain a mixture of easier, moderate and tough questions to suit the complete range of supporters and readers.
The 102-page Colchester book was compiled by Chris Cowlin (who also compiled the books on Arsenal and Norwich) and contains 700 questions on the Essex club. Question 322 is a typical well-rounded example: 'Which Colchester goalkeeper scored the winning goal in a 2-1 away win against Wycombe Wanderers in September 1991?'
Questions 111 to 120 concern current player Karl Duguid, who is the answer to the question of who provides the foreword to this book.
Bob Wilson provides the foreword to the 142-page book on Arsenal. He did not play in the first match at Highbury in 1913 but I expect, like me, he knew the answer to this question (number 706 of 1,000). Do you?
Another former keeper Bryan Gunn contributes the foreword to the Norwich City book (142 pages and 1,000 questions) which contains a section of photos. A teaser in the section on Jeremy Goss asks 'Which country did he play for?'
The Red Devils Quiz Book was compiled by John DT White. Its 177 pages contain a massive 1,250 questions and a foreword by Sir Alex Ferguson.
Interestingly, the true or false answer to question 1112 - Manchester United inherited their nickname, The Red Devils, from Salford Rugby Club - is true.
Another question I answered wrongly was: 'What colour of shirts did United wear in the 1948 FA Cup final'?
A £1 from every copy of these four books goes to one of four quite appropriate trust funds or charities.

John's book brought to the surface the full range of my emotions, frustration - when I knew the answer but couldn't recall it; annoyance - at not knowing an answer; anger - at myself when I got a question wrong; embarrassment - when I got a simple question (if there is one) wrong in front of my friends; joy, delight and relief - when I got a correct answer. The only downside is that non-Reds are getting fed up with me constantly referring to this book but who cares about non-Reds.
